Generator Shop Technician in Hutchinson, MN

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for disassembly, inspection, final assembly and test of wind turbine generators in remanufacturing shop work environment. Works primarily on the shop floor in the main shop. Equipment used includes hand tools, power tools, air tools, overhead cranes, rigging, bearing pullers, presses, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Level 1 Technician

• Ability to identify mechanical failure and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Operate rotor balance test stand.
• Full knowledge of final test bench and required customer testing.

Level 3 Technician
• All Level 1 & 2 responsibilities.
• Complete knowledge of all equipment in disassembly, inspection, final assembly and test area.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and electrical testing of generator components.
• Complete detailed visual inspection and in-depth borescope inspection reporting.
• Evaluate a Repair versus Replace study to determine scope of work required.
• Provide recommended remediation plan for generator remanufacturing.
• Lead and teach others through any shop process problem or issues that might come up.
• Ability to work with internal and customer engineering on projects and warranty issues.
• Work with engineering to improve design and quality of product.

EHS Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for preventing incidents and ensuring that workers and the job site are following all relevant environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations. Foster a culture of “Safety First” by encouraging teamwork. Identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

• Visit repower teams located throughout the project providing support and coaching, both up tower and on the ground.
• Compliance: Ensure the job site follows all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Risk Assessment and Developing Safety Protocols. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards on the project and develop proactive measures to mitigate risks.
• Perform Site Safety Inspections: Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity; stop any unsafe acts or processes.
• Conduct Safety Training and Meetings. Develop and delivery comprehensive EHS training programs for all workers.
• Maintain Accurate Records and Documentation: Document all ZRP EHS training, meeting minutes, certificates, and records to verify compliance with EHS requirements.

• Record Safety Incidents and Concerns: Investigate incidents and near misses to determine causes. Document findings and recommend corrective actions. Timely report safety incidents to management and relevant authorities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Experience with Wind Energy Operations and EHS compliance.

Major Corrective Task Force (MCTF) – Siemens Gamesa Family 3 Competent Person

JOB SUMMARY
The Major Corrective Task Force (MCTF) Siemens Gamesa Family 3 Competent Person is a highly experienced lead technician specialized in executing major component replacements and up-tower repairs on Siemens Gamesa 2.X, 3.X, and 4.X platform turbines. This role requires proven expertise in electrical de-termination and re-termination, alarm/fault troubleshooting and correction, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, and comprehensive documentation during large corrective and service activities.

As a certified Competent Person (CP) in one or more major component replacements (e.g., blade, blade bearing, main shaft, gearbox, generator, transformer), the MCTF Lead oversees a dedicated team to ensure safe, high-quality execution of main component exchanges and repairs. This position champions adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, procedural compliance, accurate reporting, and technician development while leading by example in a fast-paced, travel-intensive field environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Major Corrective Task Force (MCTF) Troubleshooter

JOB SUMMARY
Major Corrective Task Force (MCTF) Troubleshooting technicians specialize in electrical de-termination, re-termination, and alarm/fault corrections during large corrective or service activities. Generator Field Service Technician

SUMMARY:
Generator Field Service Technicians specialize in troubleshooting and repairing generators uptower as directed. Technicians are knowledgeable in procedures, schematics, H&S protocols/procedures, turbine component disassembly and assembly, drive train shrink elements/couplers, troubleshooting, rigging, LOTO, standard and specialized tooling, etc. As required, they remove/install bearings, test and troubleshoot generator windings, diagnose and repair generator windings and/or maintaining machinery and equipment according to installation manuals, work instructions, layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings. Generator Field Service Technicians are assigned to multiple projects over a rotation period and are expected to travel to remote client sites. MCE Specialists are members of a team consisting of at least one MCE Lead and are assigned to various project types throughout the country. Technicians are expected to travel to remote client sites for short or long periods of time to complete the assigned scope. Travel is on a rotational basis of 6 weeks of work and 1 week off for Rest & Relaxation..

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Perform large component exchanges, catastrophic events, Repowers, and other services on multiple platform manufactures and models.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve technical issues with the turbines and tooling.
  • Perform administrative functions such as: daily logs, time entry, safety documentation, quality reports, procedure validations, writing technical reports, and preparing job status reports.
  • Ensure proper tooling care, use, and tracking.
  • Maintain Personal & Project Protective Equipment.
  • Follow industry standards for safety while working on wind turbines.
  • Adhere to all policy and procedures for Zephyr and wind turbine manufacturers.
  • Participate in a service team dedicated to safety & quality metrics.
  • Technicians are expected to possess and display an ownership culture for the work completed by the individual and the team.
  • Up to 100% travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to articulate solutions, not just report problems.
  • Highly focused with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Certified in maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, or competent person in any platform is preferred.
  • Computer/iPad/Phone knowledge for completing daily safety, quality, and progress reports.
  • Experience using various types of tooling including hand, power (cord or cordless), hydraulic, pneumatic, and electric torque and tension tooling.
  • Experience with specialized tooling such as turning gears, pitch pumps, hydraulic jacks and rams, spreader bars, blade yokes/clamps, J-hooks, and shrink disk equipment.
  • Comprehension of work instructions, schematics, procedures, piping diagrams, and risk assessments.
  • General experience in rigging types, selection, and use. Understanding D:D ratio, angles, and load angle factors.
  • General cribbing, supports, transport stands/fixtures, blade rolling, tripping of components, and turbine main component securements.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • At least 3 years of wind experience.
  • At least 2 years of major component exchange or crane industry experience.
  • Siemens Gamesa experience and green basic tech profile required.
  • College degree or technical school preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 applications.
  • Training preferred – GWO BST, GWO BTT, NFPA70E or equivalent, OSHA 10 or 30, confined space, Class 7 forklift, Rigger 1, Hand & Radio signal, hazardous communication, GE LOTO, OEM Competency Cert (Level 1-8, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, major components, etc.), LOTO

SUMMARY:
The Technical Advisor (TA) is an onsite project oversight role who provides technical support and supervision to technical crews working on various project types. The TA is responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID’s, troubleshooting of turbine systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, cranes, tools, and materials as required to complete the work scope. The TA will oversee and support site execution teams ensuring success and minimization of project delays and non-conformities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Manage, perform, coordinate, and monitor project activities.
  • Perform on-site installation of systems and equipment and on-going preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration.
  • Provide technical instruction and assistance regarding installation, operation, calibration, repair and maintenance.

  • Perform administrative functions such as: daily logs, writing technical reports, and preparing job status reports.
